With 4,197 students, Gannon University is a private, co-educational Catholic, comprehensive university offering associate's, bachelor's, and master's degrees, certificates and doctoral degrees in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Gannon University needed to spruce up their quarterly magazine for a special issue that highlighted a cultural week hosted on campus. While, partaking in the week’s events for added inspiration, the design team and I decided to capture a whimsical performance by a group of Balinese dancers.
We called a local photographer that we had used in the past, set up the stage, lighting and dancers prior to performance. The photographer took on a bird’s eye perspective to shoot. Hundreds of potential images were critiqued and the selection was narrowed. The photographer and I, filtered through those images, consequently narrowing the selection down to about 8. Photoshop work was executed and these 8 images become the colorful cover design.
The interior of the magazine was married with the brilliant color and style of the cover all while using the existing design template. This issue has since been remembered as one of their most successful.
